Steve Matthews Testimonial — A lifelong resident of Mt Egerton
To Whom It May Concern,
My name is Steve Matthews, and I was born at Mt Egerton. I went to school there, and I grew up there. As a young child and being adventurous I remember playing in the mountains of sand that were behind the old stamp battery east of the township myself, my cousins, and just about every kid in the town at that time. I also remember fondly the rabbit shooting trips with my uncle, and my dad, down through the valley below the old stamp battery. I remember it very well, being nothing more than a swamp and infested with snakes, rabbits and just about every type of vermin you could think of, I might add not knowing any better, just about all the kids in the town swam in the dam right at the bottom of the valley. We knew nothing about the poisons left there from the mines in the late 1800’s early 1900’s; namely cyanide, arsenic, copper etc. Now I do know that what Tech-Sol, and Mr Delahuntly are trying to do, and have already done with the dam at the bottom of the valley, now world class drinking water, approved by the EPA, can only be good for the town, and I might ask where else would you get a mining company willing to put in three large dams, plant hundreds of trees, and beautify an area like that at their own cost. This area could be turned into something for the whole town to be proud of, and the other spin of would be three big dams, and a supply of water for fire fighting purposes, helitankers etc.
